Holy guacamole, Batman! Santa Cruz-based Mist Glider is not messing around with these remixes. When he approached me at the end of March to premiere his take on XXYYXX’s “About You,” I was blown away with what he and fellow Bay Area producer Aeropsia had crafted together. I love that track, and so now I just feel spoiled to premiere Mist Glider’s newest remix.

He’s teamed up with San Francisco producer Tree to deliver an ambitious rework of James Blake’s “Retrograde.” I can’t say that I’m the biggest fan of the original track, which received considerable attention from the blogosphere when it first debuted. Maybe I just haven’t given James Blake and his new album enough of a chance. Mist Glider and Tree do a wonderful job retaining the emotion of the original, while adding even more of a hip-hop edge to the production.

Can’t say I was super familiar with Shelf Nunny when the Santa Cruz-based producer first reached out to me a few days ago. Turns out that he rolls with Sleepy Beach, which means that we went from strangers to good friends in about two seconds flat. If you visit Indie Shuffle often, then you have probably enjoyed the experimental stylings of other Sleepy Beachers, including Mist Glider and Aeropsia.

“I Feel So Good About Myself” is glitchy, ambient, and all sorts of chilled out. Props to Shelf Nunny for delivering an instrumental that incorporates so many sounds, but still manages to stay light on its feet. This track has got me feeling so good about myself that I might just float away listening to it.

“I Feel So Good About Myself” is the lead single off of Shelf Nunny’s upcoming debut EP. Dream Album will be out on June 15th via Sleepy Beach, and will be well worth a listen if you’re a fan of what you’re hearing today.

I try to keep y’all in the loop as best I can with new material from artists I’ve hyped in the past. Truth be told, though, I’m slacking a little bit with sharing this new dance track from Chameo. Here’s hoping the charming Denmark-based producer doesn’t mind too much that I’m a few days later than I’d like to be with this write-up.

“Visions” is bit more low-key than the prototypical EDM “bangers” floating around the Internet these days. Chameo knows his electro house history, incorporating mellow, melancholic chords of dance floors past into something modern that works well in a dark club or a well-lit living room. As Acid Ted rightly points out, “Visions” is a big room tune that features Chameo’s characteristic bounciness. Don’t know about you, but I will be bouncing to this one all week.

Cloudeater made their Indie Shuffle about a year ago with “The Dive,” an experimental rock record off of the band’s Sun and Sidearm LP. At the time, I wrote about how Cloudeater’s lead singer, Sam Dew, sounded a bit like Thom Yorke. Whether you agree with the Radiohead comparisons or not, I hope you find some time today to enjoy our premiere of Cloudeater’s new single, “Smog.”

“Smog” caught me off guard. This track is like a death march, with military-style drumming and these ominous synths that bellow up from deep underground. “And pretty soon I won’t feel at all,” Dew sings, seemingly resigned to the harsh realities of the life he’s chosen. Cliche or not, I can’t help but feel like I’m inhaling this track whenever I listen to it.

If you’re unfamiliar with the name King Dinosaur, then today is a good day to get yourself in the loop. King Dinosaur is a Brighton-based producer who has popped up on Indie Shuffle before, most notably for his remix of Lovepark’s “How Do I See.” Since then, he’s released his How To Feel EP; it’s a great way to spend 15 minutes if you’re a fan of 2-step.

For “When They Could Own It,” which does not appear on the EP, King Dinosaur taps fellow U.K. artist Jake Reid. He adds some moody, captivating vocals to Dino’s dark production. I’m a huge fan of the sounds on this track, which apparently includes a live flute. King Dinosaur brings the deep vibes as always, getting me excited for the B-side of When They Could Own It / Colours, which will be released on May 19, 2013 via Artillery.

Any Tame Impala fans out there? That was the first band I thought of when listening to “Everyone Needs Someone” by Ohio-based Slow No Wake. It’s hard for me to understate how much I am digging the psychedelic vibes on this track, even though Slow No Wake is a one-person act and has technically classified “Everyone Needs Someone” as a demo.

Demo or not, I had to share this track. It resonates with me in the same way certain Youth Lagoon and Porcelain Raft songs do. There’s a spaciousness to “Everyone Needs Someone” that allows me to take my shoes off and get lost in it. I can feel that slide guitar in my bones, and want to be best friends with all that reverb.

I discovered Slow No Wake on Twitter. Check out his SoundCloud for more psychedelic jams, and prepare yourselves for his debut album, which should drop by the end of the summer.

The other day I logged into SoundCloud with a specific purpose. I wanted to see if Tokyo-based producer Bugseed had released any new music. He hadn’t, but wouldn’t you know, I check back a day later and this lovely little track called “Out of Love” is sitting there.

Bugseed drew me in right away with those piano chords. Then the drums start to knock, and it’s just smooth sailing from there. The hella deep vibes on “Out of Love” are perfect for a weekend morning. Overall, it’s a gorgeous hip-hop instrumental from one of my favorite producers that I hope you find some time to enjoy.

So much good music coming out of Japan right now. Interested in hearing some of it? A good place to start would be Bugseed’s Bandcamp.

I’m a big nerd when it comes to this music blogging stuff. I love seeing a talented musician get his or her sound out there to as many people as possible. Occasionally, I like to do my part to help spread the good vibes. That was the case back in early March when I hyped an electronic track titled “Dreams” by English producer Nuages.

Up to that point, Nuages’ music had only been heard by a few thousand people. “Dreams” took off once the Indie Shuffle post made its way to Hype Machine, helping it rack up nearly sixty thousand listens as of last night. That’s when I like to remember that Nuages has a day job in engineering.

“Shadows” is just the kind of music I need after listening to “Get Lucky” non-stop for the past, oh I don’t know, six months it seems. It’s dark, emotional, and holds my attention amazingly well for a six minute instrumental. I’m just going to end this post arbitrarily at this point because I could go on singing Nuages praises for, well, a while. Support him!

I’ve been meaning to properly hype Zebra Safari for months now. The Stockholm-based duo have been on a tear lately, receiving attention from quality blogs like Hilly Dilly and Pigeons & Planes for their fantastic remix Giselle’s “Silk.”

Zebra Safari have been making music together since 2011, according to Last.fm. I can’t really pick a favorite track, but “Never” is up there. Featuring support from Canadian producer Goofy Mane, Zebra Safari bring the bass, heavy piano vibes, and one hell of a choir sample on “Never.” The final product is captivating, and deserving of way more than a few thousand listens.

Back in March, I hyped a Ciara rework by Rhode Island producer The Range in anticipation of his forthcoming Seneca EP. Well, Seneca is officially up for sale and stream on Bandcamp, which means it’s time to dive into the release and share one of my favorite tracks at the moment.

“Greg Maddux Change Up” has this incredible vibe — not too far off from what producers like Keyboard Kid are creating on the other side of the country. Large up to The Range for making such great use of vocal samples. They dominate the track without taking away from the beat. “Greg Maddux Change Up” goes big on the bass and percussion, and that is something we could all use more of these days.

The Range is working towards his full length album, which is expected to arrive later this year. Enjoy Seneca, and prepare yourselves for the range of sounds still to come (couldn’t help myself).

Earlier this month, we premiered a remix of Orlando producer XXYYXX’s “About You” by Mist Glider and Aeropsia, two artists making noise out of Santa Cruz, Calif. Anyone who frequents these parts should recognize the name Mist Glider. He’s a cool guy who steps way outside the designated zone of comfort to create some awesome music.

Mist Glider has also proven himself quite a team player, as you can hear for yourself on “Love Magic.” It’s the second collaboration I’ve featured from Mist Glider and Heart Tricks, and probably won’t be the last. It’s my humble opinion that these two work really well together, bringing out playful, experimental sounds with such emotion and skill that getting lost in “Love Magic” is as simple as pressing play.

“Love Magic” is out now via Bad Panda Records.

Back in January, we premiered a track called “T W A (Till We Arrive)” by Texas MCs Tonio and Iroc Mics. Since y’all seemed to enjoy that one, I’m hopeful you’ll like this new single as well. “Grind” features Bay Area rapper Hay Sus, and in Tonio’s own words “is for everyone persevering and working through adversity.”

I can relate to that, and more importantly I find “Grind” a very easy track to vibe with — a kind of silky Saturday morning hip-hop that goes well with cereal, cartoons, deep thoughts, whatever floats your boat. There’s a lot of hip-hop on the web these day, and the least I could do is hype a couple hard-working MCs that can flex without putting Molly all up in our drinks.

Big up Tonio and Hay Sus. Looking forward to whatever’s next.

Dallas-based Neo-Safari first appeared on Indie Shuffle just about a year ago with his bubbly tune “Coastal Cruise.” It was my first taste of the Texas producer’s home brew of future bass and glitch pop. Thankfully, it wasn’t my last.

Neo-Safari just released his new Neo-Noir EP, a notably dark turn from the innocent synths that made up his first two projects. Dan Rogers, the talented man behind the moniker, acknowledges his musical past with cuts like “Dystopian Cruise.” The track, like most of Neo-Noir, rides a chill wave of glitch into a heart of darkness not yet resigned to the joys of love.

Featured track “The Departed” also happens to be the EP’s opening track. With a warped sample telling us “the heartache lives on,” it won’t take long to catch on to Neo-Noir‘s brooding — albeit sexy — ways.

You’ve probably heard of Justin Timberlake. He performed on Jimmy Fallon for like a year straight in order to promote his polarizing new album, The 20/20 Experience. I gave it a listen back when iTunes was streaming it for free, and came away feeling like the album really should have been called The Timbaland Experience.

Whatever you think of Justin Timberlake is irrelevant as soon as you hit play on this heavy remix of “Tunnel Vision” by Jonny Cage. The TNGHT vibes are undeniable, and are welcomed. Also a big fan of the hip-hop flavors that Floss Angeles-based Jonny Cage brings out of the original track.

It’s no mystery that we’re big fans of London-based Mt. Wolf. The quartet can’t really be pinned to a genre, but dream folk comes close. We deservedly hyped their brooding Life Size Ghosts EP last October, a wonderful debut worth exploring if you have some time.

Mt. Wolf’s upcoming Hypolight EP has some hype behind it thanks to lead single “Hypolight.” Some very deep vibes right there. I feel that way about the whole EP. It’s whimsical, and at the same time heartbreaking. For further reference, listen to their raw rework of Usher’s “Climax.”

Mt. Wolf fills a beautiful space with lead vocalist and song-writer Kate Sproule, who meshes so well with producer Sebastian Fox. There’s also Stevie McMinn on acoustic guitar with Alex Mitchell handling percussion. Together, these four talented artists create some strikingly original and authentic music.

I had to a chance to talk to Mt. Wolf. Read on for the full interview:

I know it’s important we talk about the EP, but first I have to ask: Are you still finding sand from that show in Nevada?
Occasionally Kate still finds some under her eyelid, Al in his drum pads, Stevie in is hair and I (Bassi) sometimes have to massage a rogue grain out from underneath one of my Maschine pads…

Had you been to the U.S. before spending time in San Francisco and Nevada?
We had all been on separate trips but this was our first one as a band. We can’t wait to return!

You’re all from England, and grew up by the sea. How has this influenced Mt. Wolf’s sound?
I think landscape has a pretty big influence on our sounds. I know Kate and Stevie have expressed the impact of being near the sea when writing vocal and guitar lines respectively and I think it shows in tracks like “Life Size Ghosts.” The beats and sounds I make are definitely affected by my immediate environment too — if I’m in London a song may come out sounding different to when I’m in Dorset! Al also grew up by the sea in Brighton.

Kate, you mentioned once that it’s important for Mt. Wolf’s sound to be portable with the ability to layer in electronics. I also read that it takes a while to craft a Mt. Wolf record. How do you think taking that time behind the scenes carries over into the portability of your sound?
On the face of it that sounds a bit counter-intuitive, doesn’t it! It’s important for us as musicians that we can play our songs whenever and wherever we want to, without feeling restricted. So we take a lot of time and care over the intimacy as well as the expansiveness of the record in the hope that we can be inventive with how we play live. It just means that we can do both full electronic shows but that equally if we strip the electronics back, there’s a sound that is still recognisably ours and hopefully, the songwriting still comes through.

Okay, so bigger picture: where do you see Mt. Wolf one year from now; five years from now?

When Santa Cruz producer Mist Glider approached me about premiering his latest remix — a collaboration with fellow Sleepy Beach producer Aeropsia — I knew as soon as I saw the letters XXYYXX that I was on board.

XXYYXX has blown up in the last year or so, thanks largely in part to the success of singles like “About You.” He’s doing interviews with Nardwuar, and playing guest sets with the WEDIDIT team at SXSW. The list goes on and on. It’s been awesome to see XXYYXX get the love he deserves for his music.

Two unstoppable forces coming out of the U.K. right now are Brighton-based label/collective Donky Pitch and Aberdeen-based producer Lockah. They’ve teamed up for Donky Pitch’s first release of 2013. Before I get into Lockah’s EP, I want to quickly praise this mix Donky Pitch recently dropped. So, so good.

Only Built 4 Neon Nites is also awesome. It features five tracks that go together so well that I am hyping “Platinum Blonde” today mainly because I want to make as many people as possible aware of the badass dance party waiting inside Lockah’s full EP. The Scottish producer covers a lot of ground, including juke and pop. Whatever you want to label it, “Platinum Blonde” sure is a favorite around my house right now.

Haven’t heard of Debian Blak before? That’s okay. You’ll be bumping into his music everywhere soon enough. The Leeds-based producer recently made the wise choice to rework some classic Aaliyah tracks, which, when done right, are great for all sorts of random playlists and occasions.

This particular Aaliyah edit hits home with my cool hip-hop side and my awkward UK dancer side. “Chemistry” is a great play on “One in a Million,” with Aaliyah’s vocals at the forefront and Debian’s mesmerizing production bringing it all home. Dude recently signed with Audio Doughnuts and will soon release his Six Months From Mars EP.

What you know about that Miami bass? Today’s premiere brings a smile to my heart’s face, as few things get me hyped like Ghost Town DJs. When “My Boo” took over the airwaves back in the day, it was a good time to be rolling down I-95 with Power 96 blasting. That’s why I am jazzed to premiere this “My Boo” remix from Santa Cruz producer Aeropsia.

I love the dreamy trap vibes coming out of the Bay Area from producers like Giraffage and the Sleepy Beach team. Turn this rework up on the weekend, or better yet as soon as you roll out of bed every morning before work. Aeropsia brings the rhythm and bass that is bound to put you in a good mood.

What's so good?

It’s been a good six months for Chicago producer Edamame. He dropped his beautiful Silhouettes EP back in October, which is worth exploring if you’re into really good glitch-hop instrumentals. Since Silhouettes, Edamame has been gearing up for his next nature-inspired release.

Coalesce Colors will further showcase the blooming experimental electronica scene we have here in the States. Edamame isn’t afraid to produce what he feels — whether it’s the camp fire-sampling “Wolf Talk” he made with Bay Area producer Nonagon, or one of a dozen other experimental tracks floating in his SoundCloud.

If you enjoy the title track, then you should know that Coalesce Colors will be out soon on Earth Day (April 22, 2013).

What's so good?

I hesitate to throw a label like “best of” around ever, especially when it comes to music. With that said, two releases have shown themselves to me as contenders for “best of”‘ recognition this year. The first is Tourist’s Tonight EP, which features the striking “I Have No Fear.” The second is Recolor, a shimmering showcase of Russian bass music from 813.

I hyped 813′s “Elastique” about a month a half ago. Go ahead and open that link up in a new tab so you’re ready for more awesomeness in a few minutes. Right now, though, it’s time for the eternal ascent that is “The Whaler.”

Hadn’t heard of Russian indie-rock duo On-The-Go before, but holy shit do they work well together with 813. Blast this in the car, in your headphones, or on your biggest boom box. Just let “The Whaler” be heard. It’s one of many reasons you should check out Recolor.

What's so good?

Astronauts, etc. made his Indie Shuffle debut back in August of last year. Since then, the talented Berkeley musician has been doing, well, a lot. He dropped his debut EP, Supermelodic Pulp, and then continued releasing more great material — most of which has already ended up on the site.

I’ve got a lot of respect for Anthony Ferraro, who also fronts a more straight-forward rock group called The Lawlands. He’s down-to-Earth, friendly, and sure can tickle the ivories. His new track, “Coldboy,” has these wonderful trop-pop vibes that bring a fresh energy to Anthony’s falsetto. Astronaut, etc.’s synth/keyboard work has me cheesing for what’s to come on his debut LP, currently set for an August release.

What's so good?

I love a good mashup. I also happen to love Jay-Z and Chrono Trigger. I hadn’t heard of Kentucky producer 2 Mello before this week, but I love him now, too.

It’s not every day that someone crafts a great mashup. It’s even less often that a fun, creative release like Chrono Jigga drops. So for 2 Mello to come out of nowhere with such a polished effort that incorporates some many things I love, well, that just has me gushing.

“An Encore in Time” samples the acapella from Jay-Z’s popular track “Encore,” blending it with ”Corridors of Time,” an original composition created by Yasunori Mitsuda for the Super Nintendo game Chrono Trigger. 2 Mello does a great job on the production, and actually contributes additional chorus vocals to the track. A cool dude named Geoff Cannon handles the guitar work, which really adds to the depth of this awesome mashup.

What's so good?

It feels like forever ago when I first hyped AJ Rice, a hard-working North Carolina producer who’s worked with Lil B and proudly represents all things BASED. Back then, I couldn’t get enough of AJ’s first solo release, MiDNiGHT, dim LiGHT. Now, I can’t get enough of his latest venture — BASEDWORLD UNITE.

The compilation album features 28 tracks from a total of 24 different producers, including Keyboard Kid, Lou Pocus, and of course AJ Rice. “Be You” is the album’s closing track (if you don’t count bonus cuts), and is a worthy finishing touch for what has to be one of the more dynamic releases of 2013. You may not know every producer’s name on BASEDWORLD UNITE, but you don’t have to in order to enjoy all the deep vibes.

What's so good?

You won’t catch me hyping too many Ciara songs, edited or otherwise. With that said, it’s hard to argue with this “Promises” rework from Rhode Island producer The Range. For the unfamiliar, The Range is a financial whiz with a penchant for making emotional bass music.

This somewhat bubbly version of “Promises” appears on The Range’s amazing Astro Nautico mix. It’s a glorious precursor of what the BPM-loving world can expect on his upcoming Seneca EP. It will be out in April via the ever reliable Donky Pitch.

Seneca features three original cuts, and three remixes from the likes of Howse, Supreme Cuts, and Obey City. Get ready for this EP – for real. The Range pours syrupy vocal loops over a fat stack of jungle break pancakes, crafting quick-footed mixes reminiscent of what producers across the Atlantic are making right now. Then I remember that The Range is releasing this dope EP through a Brighton-based label, and it all makes a little more sense.

When it comes to good music, it’s a pretty small world after all.
