So, you need a track to instantly inject yourself with that starry-eyed moment that doesn’t come from a pill (you know, a little thing called l-o-v-e?). Maybe you want to impress someone, maybe you find rapid cycling your emotions sexy, or maybe you just need a break from the callousness — I don’t know, whatever gets you off man, but pick a reason. What band do you turn to?
For me, that’s Black Light Dinner Party, every time. I spent hours in 2011 watching the “Older Together“ video to remind myself I still had emotions kicking around in there. Black Light Dinner Party has a stellar ability to explore the moments of condensed goodness that’s in all of us. And never once does that easy access to joy feel tawdry.
Black Light Dinner Party embellishes their tracks with electronic exaggerations that allow your imagination to see the mundane of the city as warm and fantastical. It’s the little things — like birds quixotically chirping in like synth whispers — that signal it’s okay to let yourself go and feel something. So if this song melts the gushy Tootsie Pop center in you, making you feel twitterpated enough to hold someone’s fucking hand, you can thank BLDP for that moment of humanness.
