Lights Out (Todd Terje Remix)

"Lights Out (Todd Terje Remix)"

What's so good?

Remixes are life’s answer to the thought “oh shit, if only this track was longer I’d give up lattes for a week.” Unfortunately, longer is not always better (music, I speak of — music!), which would fall under the “be careful what you wish for” column. The best remixes/refixes/edits push boundaries and make a track into an entirely different animal, one of the most important purposes.

Norway’s Todd Terje does exactly that with indie rock band Bombay Bicycle Club’s track “Lights Out” — ingenious elongation and interpretation morphs the track from a black lab puppy to a frolicking dolphin. The original is innocent and playful, while the remix takes on a summer/beach vibe. Elongating it into almost twelve minutes, there’s an incredible intro threaded with chillwave — yet it lacks the predictability of the rest of the genre — as well as a percussion heavy bridge long enough to grab another beer from the cooler. Good for a day at the beach? Duh.
