Camp Out
Closer

"Closer"

Sounds like: Tegan & Sara, Stars, Kaki King

What's so good?

By | July 23rd, 2011

A coworker sent me the song “Closer” by San Francisco duo Camp Out, and I kinda dig it. It’s not the most complex or experimental indie pop I’ve heard, but it’s fun, the production is clean, and I love the lead singer’s voice.

Camp Out is an up-and-coming San Francisco band that I predict will go far. They have that whole Tegan and Sara sound, but a little less pop and a little more sass. Maddy Hanks and Jackie Law met at Berkeley (woo! and they’re smart, too!) in 2008 and formed Camp Out to “satisfy their musical creative cravings.” I think that they have an awesome thing going for them; the talent’s all there, which means there’s a lot of potential for them to further develop their sound.

“Closer” appears on their full-length of the same name. If you live in San Francisco, keep your eyes peeled for these lovely ladies.
