I grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis, but never got into Minneapolis’s music scene until I went out of state to college. In my discoveries, I managed to find some of the most talented musicians I’ve heard in a long time. Here’s how I unearthed a few of ‘em…
School of Seven Bells – Disconnect From Desire

School of Seven Bells’s second album has definitely shown growth as the band has taken their shoegaze, dream-pop music and fused it with a more polished pop sound without losing the fuzzy distorted noise splashed between the vocals.

These days it seems like anyone with a Macbook and GarageBand can sample an 80s song, add reverb, post it to their tumblr and call it chillwave. One of these acts is Vancouver, Canada’s Teen Daze, a fairly new contender who seems to be offering more than other chillwave artists.

Air 2 A Bird’s first LP, Crow Hill, has an interesting theme to it. Along with their group/album name, their instrumentals center around birds.

July 20th, 2010 | by Bryan Mojica | published in dance, electronic, remixes | 4 comments
A remix is especially memorable when the original tune undergoes an emotional metamorphosis. In this case, Allure demonstrates his keen ability to target a once-meditative track and completely transform its feeling via the omission of piano and subsequent addition of synth, snaps, claps and punctuated bass.
The Glitch Mob – XLR8R Podcast
July 8th, 2010 | by Taylor Fife | published in electronic, remixes | 1 comment
It looks like talking about Major Lazer & La Roux’s ‘Lazerproof’ last week has opened the floodgates for posting about mixtapes here on Indie Shuffle. Don’t pretend you’re not happy about it, we know we’re ecstatic. XLR8R, simply the best electronic music publication around, recently got edIT, Ooah, and Boreta to put a few tracks together for their latest podcast.
Jonas Reinhardt – Powers of Audition
July 6th, 2010 | by Taylor Fife | published in ambient, electronic, instrumental, house | 1 comment
Jonas Reinhardt is more art music than pop music, and closer to experimental synthesizer work from decades ago than it is to current trends in dance and independent music. Indeed, the whole album is a throwback to the time before synthesizers had been incorporated into mainstream popular music. If you’re an electronic music buff in search of an intriguing composition, this is highly recommended.

Indiekid is an Austrian producer similar to Justice or Soulwax with some solid tracks that should tide you over until Gaspard and Xavier decide to reemerge. Unlike Justice, Indiekid’s release date is set: July 1st. ‘Only You,’ a banging mix-friendly track, was previously released as a single and will be featured on the new album.
