We’ve been longtime fans of Max Cooper over here at Indie Shuffle — back in June we featured two of his remixes as our Song of the Day, and the feedback was phenomenal (just look at how many Facebook likes the man received!). At the time of that first post, we were informed by Max’s publicist that he had something special in the works: a Hot Chip remix.

HEALTH::DISCO2 is just as wacky and unpredictable as Health and the flock of characters they got to do the remixing are. The stems of the original tracks are buried in their somewhere, but each tune is a chance for the remixer to show their style, rather than an attempt to turn Health’s grinding noise into something suitable for the dance floor.

A few days ago, a virtually unknown British producer by the name of Danger Dan released a remix of Radiohead’s “Kid A” on an Erol Alkan message board, and it’s quickly becoming one of the most talked about tracks in the music blogosphere. It’s amazing how fast a good track or a remix of a familiar song can put you on the map these days.

Rephlektor Inkorporated just sent me an album that would typically never make it on my playlist: the vocals, provided by Mimu, aren’t as strong as one would expect with such a minimal techno/house background. They also aren’t as cute as I was hoping. None of that matters, though, because the bass kills. Produced by Austrian electronic artist Clara Moto (whose background, surprisingly, is in jazz and classical-piano) Polyamour provides a clean electronic listening experience with excellent production and breadth. Not only will this make my playlist, it’s making it on the site.
Four Tet – There Is Love In You

Four Tet is quite simply one of the best in the business. I could equally say it sounds like nothing ever before, but the fact is, it does. It sounds like Four Tet. What sets it apart in my eyes is just how much more musically mature Hebden seems to have become in the five years or so since his last release. The mad staccato drum machines which littered every corner of 2005′s Everything Ecstatic have been almost entirely cut out – the only time any kind of glitchy drum beat features on this release is on the rather misleading preview track ‘Love Cry’. This time round, the drum machine is dropped in favour of a low murmur of a bass kick, and the effects are infinitely calmer.

Four Tet has returned with not only news of a new 12″, but also with a lovely 9 minute lead single entitled Love Cry, from January 25th’s There Is Love In You. It’s a repetitive, and at times quite glitchy record, taking elements of his work with Burial and mixing them all down into a semi-ambient, underground dance record.

The entire album does seem to be soaked in a (hopefully) self-aware kitsch aesthetic. The melodies almost feel too catchy at times, the sounds are sometimes slightly too unreal, and whiffs of Sega Genesis theme songs slip in on occasion. But I suppose when your album shares its name with a single from the days of hairspray and acid wash, a little cheese is to be expected.
