Let me take this opportunity to discuss my two favorite experimental artists with the Indie Shuffle community: Tycho & Lusine. Both artists create music under Ghostly International alongside those oh-so-sweet pop melodies of School of Seven Bells. An art gallery as well as a design house, this once-coined “boutique label” has branched out to encompass all elements involved in creating a piece of art.

In the last week we’ve been ramping up Wait What’s new mixtape. As you may recall, he experienced breakout success on the blogosphere with a mashup of The Xx and Biggy. This time around Indie Shuffle is helping Charlie bring this album to the internet masses.

Close your eyes and play the Blood Diamonds Remix of Apache Beat’s new single, “Another Day,” and prepare to be taken on a trip of tropical proportions. See the palm trees sway as you dance your way off the ship into an island paradise full of excitement and adventure.
Arcade Fire – Sprawl II (Tommie Sunshine’s Quaalude Edit)

Tommie Sunshine lays his hands on urban planning anthem “Sprawl II” by Canadian piano-band Arcade Fire (who you might have heard of). Sunshine smartly leaves most of the song intact, opting to use a simple kick-clap, a brooding bassline and a few simple effects creating the necessary kick to make this a 2 a.m. killer without robbing the track of its uplifting harmony.

If you haven’t yet heard of MiMOSA, keep him on your radar because he is blowing up fast. His newest release, the Your Love EP, is a testament to his progression as an artist into a more mature sound than his earlier work.

Not cool that Janelle Monae was late to her performance at San Francisco’s Outside Lands. Her powerful voice, funky dance moves, and killer style left me only wanting more.

We’ve been longtime fans of Max Cooper over here at Indie Shuffle — back in June we featured two of his remixes as our Song of the Day, and the feedback was phenomenal (just look at how many Facebook likes the man received!). At the time of that first post, we were informed by Max’s publicist that he had something special in the works: a Hot Chip remix.

A remix is especially memorable when the original tune undergoes an emotional metamorphosis. In this case, Allure demonstrates his keen ability to target a once-meditative track and completely transform its feeling via the omission of piano and subsequent addition of synth, snaps, claps and punctuated bass.

It looks like talking about Major Lazer & La Roux’s ‘Lazerproof’ last week has opened the floodgates for posting about mixtapes here on Indie Shuffle. Don’t pretend you’re not happy about it, we know we’re ecstatic. XLR8R, simply the best electronic music publication around, recently got edIT, Ooah, and Boreta to put a few tracks together for their latest podcast.

‘Lazerproof’ is a genius rework of nearly all of La Roux’s self-titled debut. The entire mixtape is entertaining, fun and hilarious in that very special Major Lazer way. Even though it seems Diplo and Switch didn’t do much writing or producing for the tape, it still shows off their eclectic taste and knowledge of various dance and island genres.
