The Streets – Blinded by the Lights (Nero Remix)

The two-step rhythm in The Streets’ “Blinded by the Lights” makes the song a perfect candidate for a dubstep remix. This new Nero remix doesn’t actually change much from the original, but the ground shaking bass and the trippy delay on the vocals makes for an entirely different listening experience, which is exactly what a good remix should do. Some moments are absolutely flooring. Find some good speakers or some good headphones, sit back, maybe light up a bit, and treat yourself to this bass assault.
Danger Dome’s Top Remixes of 2009 – Part 2 of 2

Though often overdone, and largely mediocre, a good remix can be a powerful thing. It can transform a great song into an even greater one, and a not that great one into an enjoyable listening experience. They allow music to transcend genres, and when done right, create a song that one thinks of as completely separate from the original. I tried to choose five, but had to bump the number up to ten, because there was too much greatness to go around. I’ve also chosen to list these by remixer, not original artist. So let’s get to it.

The Notwist – The Devil, You + Me

The Notwist formed in 1989 in Weilheim, Germany. Over the years, they moved through several musical incarnations despite maintaining a relatively stable lineup. While their early records held onto a heavy metal/krautrock/dark indie rock sound, their recent efforts, for which they have received the most attention, have been very strongly influenced by the electronica scene.
Phoenix – Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix: Remix Collection
October 24th, 2009 | by Jason Grishkoff | published in remixes | 4 comments
Paired side by side with Phoenix’s original release (a la the Pepsi-Coke challenge), I would be almost willing to put money on listeners picking the original Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix album. Perhaps my analysis is harsh, but I can’t help but feeling this album is one large, epileptic seizure away from flopping.
Animal Collective – Summertime Clothes (Dam-Funk remix)
October 12th, 2009 | by camden andrews | published in remixes | no comments
It’s amazing how the smallest tweaks in a song can produce something entirely different. Dam-Funk’s remix of “Summertime Clothes” is nothing drastic- the song structure stays nearly the same and he only replaces maybe three of the song’s existing layers with his own signature drum machine sound and some floaty synths.
Phoenix – Rome (Neighbors and Devendra Banhart Remix)
October 9th, 2009 | by Jason Grishkoff | published in remixes | 1 comment
This cover of Phoenix’s Rome starts off at the bridge, which is probably my favorite part of the original song, and certainly a highlight of the album. To be able to pull out a single bridge and develop an entirely new song is a compliment to both those doing the remix and those being remixed.
Phoenix – Love Like a Sunset (Animal Collective Remix)

Yesterday’s posting of the “Shuttle” remix of Phoenix’s “Love Like a Sunset” drew a considerable amount of attention. Here’s a second remix of this same song, by Animal Collective, a (currently) far more notorious artist than Passion Pit’s drummer. But wait, there’s more! Are you interested yet? You should be! As it turns out, Phoenix’s Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix has been entirely remixed by a number of well-known groups.
Phoenix – Love Like a Sunset (Shuttle Remix)

one of this year’s best albums has had the remixers going at it like vultures to carrion (animal collective, for example, just took a shot at this track). personally, i’m not so sure that anyone can improve on phoenix’s stellar album, but for those of you familiar with their work, this is somewhat entertaining.
