This track may have been released back in April, but as it’s new to me, it has been my theme song as we made our transition into 2012. Much like the forces of the seasons play on our tender human constitution, “Stay Away” glides, like a tenuous blade on a string, over that fine line between mad love and just plain madness.
With such a dark, 80′s synth pop treatment, Charli XCX reminds me of many things, but Jeanne Mas and MNDR are the first things that come to mind. XCX manages to seamlessly marry the old with the new, and with such a timeless topic, “Stay Away” will be staying very close to my heart.
As for Charli XCX, she too will remain in my radar. Having top name producers under her belt (Ariel Rechtshaid, Alex Metric, MNEK, Dimitri Tikavoi, Patrik Berger) and having toured with the likes of Robyn and Peaches, this chic is ready to explode in 2012.
