Glasgow-based CHVRCHES had a big hurdle to meet after their debut single “Mother We Share” exploded all over the internet. Not to mention the endless stream of remixes that helped the track linger around like a post-orgasmic bliss on a hot day.
Fortunately, “Recover” comes in as an unassailable pop anthem of manifest proportions, and more than meets the challenge of living up to its predecessor.
The vocals rise and fall at seemingly indefatigable levels over bombastic instrumentals filled with magic. Gone this time is a little bit of the gooey connections between the singer and their target, and in its place is a synth-based challenge for emotional dominance in what sounds like a flailing relationship.
I don’t know about you all, but I’m super excited to see this one blow up in a summer song of epic heights. Who do you think, Shufflers, will do the first remix out the gate? I’m hoping for St. Lucia this time around. Imagine this song colliding with the style of “Before the Dive“–that would be heaven in my ears.
