Ahhhhh, the end of another year. A time to sit back and reflect on all that was, all that wasn't, what was good, and what was awful.  Thankfully 2013 turned out to be a great year not only for movies, but also for the music that filled our ears while we watched. We were treated to some epic soundtracks in 2013 with the return of The Hunger Games series' Catching Fire and Baz Lehrman's The Great Gatsby giving us enough tracks to make up their own Internet radio channel and completely take over the music blogosphere.  Featuring artists like Lorde and Florence + The Machine, those movies remind us that soundtracks are still as important today as they were in their heyday of the 90s. We also found a few electronic music producers making their way into the soundtrack game; M83 scored and composed the sci-fi thriller Oblivion, which included his collaboration with Susanne Sundfør, Active Child made his way onto the soundtrack for The Host with the beautiful "Evening Ceremony," and Pharrell again found himself in the company of little yellow minions on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. Simon Pegg's apocalyptic pub crawling movie The World's End found itself getting kicked off in classic fashion with Primal Scream's "Loaded,"  and Sophia Coppola's teen crime drama The Bling Ring find the perfect use for Frank Ocean's "Super Rich Kids." Major motion pictures couldn't steal all the thunder though, as there were plenty of indie flicks that made good use of music. Drinking Buddies tapped the talents of Cayucas, Simon Killer featured the ever-talented LCD Soundsystem and almost the entirety of the 8:58 long "Dance Yrself Clean," and Purity Ring was used as worlds collided in Afternoon Delight. So go pop some popcorn, get comfortable, and take a trip through some of the best songs movies had to offer in 2013!
