Perth’s Crooked Colours liken themselves to electro pioneers New Order, or the darker sounds of Crystal Castles. What I hear though, is a definite likeness to other Australian acts like The Presets and Cut Copy. Perhaps it’s just the accent, but I find Australian electro has something about it that really sets it apart.
Performing since the start of 2012, the three-piece released their debut EP midway through the year. The combination of driving synth lines, sharp percussion and glossy vocals resulted in four promising tracks, with “Pop Culture” perhaps the standout.
The band has also recently released a cover version of Crystal Castles’ single “Vanished,” which can be downloaded for free from the band’s SoundCloud. The cover is also accompanied by a live video of the band in the studio.
