My expectations going into this new single were quite low. Some of the Dan Deacon I’ve sampled recently just wasn’t to my taste.
What a surprise I got upon hitting play! “True Thrush” is a layered, complex song that keeps my attention the entire way through.
Mr. Deacon’s upcoming album America (out August 27th) will be his first since 2009. While it’s not unusual for most artists to have a ~3 year gap between albums, I find this instance particularly exceptional because, well, Dan has historically been incredibly prolific. For example, in 2003 he released one EP and three LPs.
