Preparations for the release of Dappled Cities’ fourth album Lake Air are in full swing. Due for release in August 3rd, all signs are pointing to this being a truly excellent album, and the release of its second single “Born at the Right Time” does nothing to dispel this theory.
The Sydney-based band are in their creative prime. While they’re essentially making pop music, they’re doing it in their own unique style — and I cannot get enough of it. While first single “Run with the Wind” was more of an epic, “Born at the Right Time” is a more danceable tune (no surprise after vocalist Tim Derricourt’s foray into disco-pop with his side-project Swimwear). Funky and upbeat, it’s very easy on the ear, despite Dappled’s trademark quirky key changes and vocal harmonies.
The countdown to Lake Air now begins in earnest, and this humble music-lover is already predicting it’ll be one of the albums of the year.
