The stand-out of this song is that they rip on Google: “Google is evil.” Booooooo! The broader highlight of this song is slick, technologically-laden wordplay, highlighted by simple beats (compliments of Diplo). I’ll let the broader one take the lead for now.
Based in Brooklyn, Das Racist is made up two members and a hype man: Hiamnshu Suri of Queens, Victor Vazquez of San Francisco and Ashok Kondabulu, who goes by Dap for live performances and music videos. What’s a hype man do? Not entirely sure.
Das Racist’s deconstructionalist musical product appears to be, in many instances, an opportunity for the band to provide commentary on hip-hop and the world today — rather than just using the platform as a simple opportunity to drop a sick flow over some sick beats. The result can be sometimes polarizing, particularly at live performances where viewers often decide they either love the band, or want to rip their eardrums out.
