The song starts out with an acoustic guitar, funky bass, glittering keys, simple tambourine, and a hand clap beat. Then come the vocals. Dent May's vocals are so singable and infectious that this song will get stuck in your after just one listen. His pop sensibility is what sets him apart from everyone else in this genre of zany/psych/bubblegum pop with a pinch of 80s new wave. The song quickly picks up to a blast of disco beats and bass, which wonderfully compliment Dent's harmonies and melodies.
Dent May has the ability to mash up a number of different genres, a talent that so many wish they had and so few actually have and utilize well. I'm already tipping my hat to him, especially if his new album, Do Things, is anything like this single. "Fun" is aptly named; it's so perfectly warm and sunny that I kind of don't mind waiting until June 12 for the album's official release.
I have a feeling that this album will be a summer staple.
