My life is most certainly coming full circle. A few years back, I saw Die Antwoord before they blew up, at the shady (yet wonderful) Cape Town joint Purple Turtle. A friend and I, along with about 30 others, were dancing non-stop and were mesmerized by the massive amounts of energy beaming out of the trio. They are definitely a group to see live.
So it’s with great pleasure that I stumbled upon Salon Acapulco’s brilliant tropical nu-disco version of “$copie.” It’s like finding myself at a beachside day rave with the euphoria-induced memory of that night, and Yo-Landi Vi$$er’s shiny gold leggings, filtering through the forefront. It’s completely unexpected, yet ultimately satiates the appetite for an entire album of freaky-rap, digital disco, which I would say makes this an extremely successful unofficial remix.
If this is your first encounter with South Africa’s Die Antwoord, then visit their website to hear their unlike-anything-you’ve-ever-heard-rap-rave or stay updated on Facebook. As for Salon Acapulco, you can head over to their SoundCloud to hear more. The Mexican DJ/producer duo of Telesforo and Iñigo take previous hits and transform them into tropical house edits.
