AlunaGeorge’s new track “Diver” romps with self-confidence. Laid over warm synth and electronic horn sections, the vocals skitter and serenade around glitchy valleys and futuristic melodies.
The result gives us what will surely be one of 2013’s best choruses: ”Cause I feel, and I touch, and I live.” Looped four times, it’s great because I find choruses often become weighed down by their insistence to be loved; their wanton faces looking at you with a hope you’ll return the love. This one’s nice and straightforward.
Coupled with the insanely tight production and swagger of the stanzas, the chorus of “Diver” compares the singer’s relationship to a person of wobbly romantic confidence, who in an existentialist moment of crisis (and without a second of anxiety), reasserts the singer as unquestionably worth it in every way. It’s like Icona Pop’s “Manners,” but without the bitterness.
Coming off the heels of the magic single “Your Drums, Your Love,” this new track finds AlunaGeorge zooming straight to the heart of every critic out there — and hopefully by the time their debut Body Music comes out, everyone else as well.
