El Sueño De La Casa Propia

Pobre Ave

Sounds like: Asura, Star Slinger, Mt. Kimbie
South America is a freakin ginormous continent, but we generally don't hear a lot from the southern hemisphere's music scene up here. Under the moniker El Sueño De La Casa Propia -- The Dream Of Home Ownership -- Jose Manuel Cerda has been making local waves in Chile over the past year or so. Hailing from Valparaiso, a picturesque seaside town in central Chile, one might assume that Jose's life mirrors the lovely water-bordered scenery in which he grew up; unfortunately, earlier years were not so kind to Cerda, having spent time a drug dealer and street vendor before the electronic music pulled him into a better place.El Sueño De La Casa Propia came to my world today, when I just so happened upon a sweet little gem of a song called "Pobre Ave." Calling upon a laptop and sampling techniques to create a glitchy, undulating sound, the song conjures the comparison of a (completely fictitious) Mt. Kimbie / Starslinger collaboration. A woman's soft vocals are sampled throughout, sharing the limelight with some ooh-ing and ahh-ing ladies while playful percussions and wind instruments frolic about. Although no actual words are spoken, a very malleable story has been told. Last year, El Sueño De La Casa Propia released an LP entitled Historial De Caidas. From what I have heard, "Pobre Ave" is a more mature sound with depth and casual yet tactical planning for a mellifluous overall package. Other songs by ESDLCP tend to be on the more abrasive and frantic side, so I'm hoping for more of this well-balanced vibe going forward.
