Eleventh Dream Day

Satellite

Sounds like: Caves, Japandroids
After 24 years of being in a band, Chicago natives Eleventh Dream Day (EDD) released their tenth album -- their first since 2006 -- Riot Now! on local label, Thrill Jockey.Grunge meets ambient meets punk -- that's Eleventh Dream Day. The collaboration of genres is odd, but works in their case. Since the release of their first full length album Prairie School Freakout in 1988, EDD has successfully maintained their original character while steadily maturing.Riot Now! is a progressive punk-rock anthem. Single "Satellite" features the band's experimental digs. With an instrumental break, the quartet mixes synth with an intense guitar solo for a crackling, sci-fi feel.As a punk band returning to their roots, Eleventh Dream Day recorded this album with little overdubbing and few takes. The garage band vibe works well for this band. The lack of post-production is refreshing and ensures that computer modified sound isn't necessary to sound unique.
