Está Vivo, my darling Ryan, is no stranger to Indie Shuffle. But when I heard the tale of this new tune “My Thing,” I had to help a lover’s cause. So press play and indulge in the tale of this song that I’m about to share with you.
He begins to describe an illustrious woman he met at a friend’s party a handful of Fridays ago, Michelle. Sure, they had met before, but they hadn’t really “met.” Noticing her immediately, he soon found that he couldn’t bear to tear away to talk to anyone besides her. He absorbed every giggle, every smile — and every word sunk into his head and stayed there. When the topic of bucket lists came up, she mentioned that she always wanted someone to write a song for her. Ryan could do nothing else but focus on fulfilling her dream. But what would the song be about? What did these imminent soul mates have in common?
Well, the first song they danced to was The Cure’s “Friday I’m In Love,” which he slyly incorporated into the lyrics, accompanied by their bits of conversation. He said, it was “a chance for me to explore all of what I knew at the time…So here I am, romantically imposing myself onto an other. But really, how could I not?” And aren’t we glad he did?!
Now they two have fallen madly in love. They’re best friends, soul mates, idealists, whatever you can dream up as the happily ever after scenario. Here you have it, a pretty little song for a pretty little lady.
