Fama Eightyseven's Other Spectrum is simply a creative take on hip hop; fourteen instrumental tracks with awesome samples that are stimulating to listen to and fun on the ears.
His songs are like well-calculated tennis matches, with beats flying back and forth between your speakers in a way that can only be described as playful. The great piano-guitar motif, accompanied to the eerie and cut-up lyric "Still you're promised to die" in this featured track is just one example of how raw his songs can be.
Best of all, the whole album is this wicked. Tracks range from seventies-laden "Come Back (Open the Heart)" to the absolutely serene "Lotus Roots" (which indeed inspires the pleasant idleness of the Odyssey's lotus fruit). In spite of how mellow it is, the music constantly engages, with each including a delightful surprise that turns what you expect hip hop to sound like on its head.
You can't have anything but a smile play across your lips as you slowly digest every song -- it's like Christmas came early every time the track changes. Listen carefully and you'll soon find yourself swimming deep in layers of consuming beats.
