Another talented act hailing from the Blue Mountains (just West of Sydney) is the electronic duo Fishing. The glitch-tinkerers Doug Wright and Russel Fitzgibbon started out as the vocalist and drummer of indie pop group We Say Bamboulee, but have been operating this side project since 2010. Their fame has grown recently, with support slots for SBTRKT, Oliver Tank, and Cloud Control (whose singer Alister is Doug’s older brother – talented family!), while they’ve also played their own shows in the US and UK.
They’re rather prolific too, having produced four releases last year as well as a bunch of remixes for the likes of Alpine and Jonathan Boulet. Their latest project will be a 7″ vinyl for release in October, and will include their current single “Choy Lin.” The track is typically staggered, with a definite deep forest/world music vibe to it. While it falls into the “experimental” field, there’s plenty of commercial appeal to it – they’ve toed the line perfectly on this one.
If you like this one, head over to their SoundCloud and check out a bunch of their other tracks and remixes.
