On August 14th, Concord Music are set to release a tribute album to Fleetwood Mac. The lineup of stars performing covers is unlike one I’ve seen in recent memory: Lykke Li, MGMT, Best Coast, The Kills, Tame Impala…the list goes on.
Today, Washed Out’s version of “Straight Back” was uploaded to Soundcloud. Off Fleetwood Mac’s 1982 album Mirage, the lyrics of the song refer to Stevie Nicks’ breakup with producer Jimmy Iovine, “and the huge wrench she experienced having to leave her newly established and highly successful solo career to re-join Fleetwood Mac for the 1982 project” (Wikipedia).
Can’t say I’m much for listening to lyrics — what’s got me here is the hybrid between Washed Out’s chillwave sound, and the more classic elements of rock one associates with Fleetwood Mac. Pretty bomb combo.
