"Rites of Spring"

Sounds like: Magic Man, White Hinterland, Thom Yorke

What's so good?

No matter what the weather’s like outside (or what the song title might insinuate), it’s definitely winter in “Rites of Spring,” the new single off of Fredrik’s forthcoming LP, FLORA, due out April 12. The track is the ultimate soundtrack for hiking through a dense forest; it comes as no surprise that this Swedish electronic trio has been described with words like “haunting,” “earthy,” and “intense.”

The layered track and subdued, deep vocals evoke similarities to Thom Yorke and Radiohead — even though it’s really hard to draw a comparison between Fredrik and any other band. Sometimes it’s a struggle to describe any type of music or song, but it’s especially difficult when a band’s MySpace says that their influences are “multi-exposed photography and lucid dreaming.” Just adding to the mystery, aren’t you, Fredrik?

“Rites of Spring” is just the kind of medieval track that compels you to take a walk in the rain. Without an umbrella. Come on, face the elements.

What do you think?
