What's so good?
By Elizabeth Walker | November 11th, 2011
The word piano comes from the Italian work pianoforte, quite simply meaning instrument. Since the black and white 88 keys comprise one of the world’s most recognizable instruments, its namesake derivation is more than appropriate.
With the rising popularity of electronic music and DJing, traditional instruments are giving way to MIDI players, Serato boxes, and Kaos pads; so, I felt it appropriate in this month of thanks that we pay homage to one of the most beautiful and celebrated instruments in history. From the photo to the right, you’ll note that even cats like the piano. Grey ones and everything.
"Soulphiction - Who To Call"
OMFG, this song gets me every time. This deep house track is complete perfection, the kind that even Zeus himself can't achieve. It's soulful, deep, and has the best hook of all time.

"Justin Martin - The Sad Piano"
Before we were
beating birds with bats, Justin Martin came out with "The Sad Piano," a housey, vacillating track. Quipping vocals marry with a deep house bass line and decrescendoing piano notes. Might I suggest dope as an adjective?

"Alaska In Winter - Balkan Low Rider Anthem"
With a suicide scare recently (read more
here), we are exponentially happy that musician Alaska In Winter is still walking among us. "Balkan Low Rider Anthem" is a song from his earlier works, but still a favorite with its rolling piano and despondent strings unfurling in the background.

"Philip Glass - Metamorphosis 2"
Oh snap, we be gettin all classical up on this playlist. Philip Glass, one of this century's most accredited composers, wrote "Metamorphosis 2" which an absolutely mind-blowing and melancholy song. Beck will be producing a
remix album for the composer's upcoming 75th birthday, featuring artists like Memory Tapes and Amon Tobin.

"Kings of Convenience - Misread"
"Misread" is hands down one of my favorite songs. Ever. Its tune is whimsical and features some of the most brilliantly poetic lyrics. This is what music should be -- captivating and bursting with layers of ingenuity.
