Fruit Bats

My Unusual Friend

Sounds like: Dr. Dog, The Apples in the Stereo, Fleetwood Mac, Matt Costa
Is it folk-pop, or something along country lines? Honestly, I wasn't quite sure when I first put this album on, but the bottom line is that I enjoyed it.  It was only after five or so listens that I decided to delve a little deeper, and oh what an interesting find! Turns out that lead guitarist, pianist and vocalist extraordinaire Eric D. Johnson is also a member of "The Shins" and "Vetiver". How's that for musical success? With the dropping of their fourth studio album, "Fruit Bats" are "deepening their sound, and expanding it by incorporating more classic rock stuff. More guitar rundowns and solos, subtle shifts in tempo, dabbles in piano-pop, and jangly group singalongs. It's a varied and rich set, and the best from a band that has been pretty good all along." - PopmattersIf you're looking for a rustic and happy folk that tickles the likes of "Dr. Dog" and "Matt Costa", I'd recommend you head on over to the "Fruit Bats'" Myspace and give them a more thorough listen. You might find it quite worth your while.https://www.indieshuffle.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/20090804_090804_fruit_bats_my_unusual_friend.mp3
