I admit, I was a bit ignorant about Gotye before this remix. I had heard a track or two and was instantly reminded of Sting, but never gave him more than a passing thought. Enter Scoop Deville. The young beat-maker has produced for hip-hop powerhouses like 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Young Jeezy and most recently Kendrick Lamar and Dr. Dre. He’s also the son of L.A. rap pioneer Kid Frost.
While we have posted various other remixes of this track on Indie Shuffle, this one is definitely different and deserves some play as well. In this particular remix, Scoop takes the quaint ballad from Gotye’s Making Mirrors LP and fuses it with a swirling keyboard riff and those 808′s us rap heads like to bounce to so much.
The end result is lands somewhere between the dancefloor, the 12′s in your trunk and your bedroom the morning after, proving once again that hip-hop producers quite often have a broad musical palette.
You know Gotye, but if you don’t know Scoop, you will undoubtedly be hearing much more from him in the future.
