Hooodie Allen struck gold a some time back with his release of a track sampling “You Are Not A Robot” by Marina & The Diamonds, Climbing to the top of HypeM charts and setting the blogosphere on fire. Hailing from Long Island, New York, Hoodie successfully mixed a new-school indie pop sample with the punchy lyricism and youthful energy of a 21-year-old hip-hop artist.
A few months later now, and Hoodie has relocated to Indie Shuffle’s home turf: San Francisco. I saw him open up for Wait What at the “This Is Real Life” release party, and found myself thoroughly entertained by his dynamic stage presence (which set the perfect platform from which Wait What could begin its set). For an up-and-coming new artist to relocate across the country and still draw the excitement that Hoodie did at that performance was pretty remarkable.
