Jess' Top Tracks of 2009

What's so good?

By | December 17th, 2009

With 2009 fast coming to a close, every blog everywhere is scrambling to put together their best of lists. Obviously, this indie shuffle contributor is no different. I decided to pick the top ten songs I would put on a released in 2009 soundtrack. Think of this as your every own indie pop playlist spanning the twelve months.
I tried to pick songs released at different times of the year, from back in February (here we go magic) to more recent months (Freelance Whales). Here’s my 10 best indie pop songs of 2009. We’ll start with songs 10-6 on this post. Come back tomorrow for songs 5-1! Use the player at the bottom of the page to listen to all the songs. Now on to the music…

"Faunts - Feel.Love.Thinking.Of."
Melancholy and ethereal, this song rides the vocals and synthesized sounds well. Sounds like love lost and contemplated, long nights churning the memories out via musical outlets. With this song, we’re all on that same journey of looking back to look forward, propelled by the atmospheric sound waves of feel.love.thinking.of.

"Here We Go Magic - Tunnelvision"
In keeping with the fuzzy subconscious feel, we have to include here we go magic on this list. While some of the album was a bit too slow, tunnelvision builds and builds but never reaches the summit. We’re left permanently suspended, enjoying the lo-fi wistful music.

"Octopus Project - Wet Gold"
The experimental electronic indie sounds of this Octopus Project EP are addictive. I kept hoping there would be more, but wet gold’s dreamy layers of sound are plenty to get us through until the next album.

"Miike Snow - Animal"
This song came out in February, and yet, at the end of the year, I’m still bouncing around to its fun cool tunes. Electropop dance tunes? Miike Snow’s got it covered with Animal.

Download
"Passion Pit - Sleepyhead"
Full of synth, this song makes your head spin. You’re never quite sure about the vocal effects, but this little song still seems to be played on repeat everywhere, including my ipod.

What do you think?
