There are quite a few electronic tracks that have somewhat questionable tones in my mind. I can't decide whether or not I should listen to these tunes in the same way that I watch a scary movie or whether I should feel a little creeped out. Recently, I realized that I've listened to enough strange music that I am now able to stick around to appreciate the subtle instances of beauty that lie within the darkness of a song. This contrast of light and dark makes me appreciate the positive elements even more, so much so that I now favor tracks that can pull this off fluently.Rival Console's remix of "Insides" from Jon Hopkins is a prime example. To the untrained ear, this is a dark dubstep tune with no positive light in sight. Listen closer though, and you'll hear a subtle piano melody emerge from the depths of the grimey bassline. This seemingly small addition is actually the missing piece to the puzzle -- the track would not be complete without it. Rival Consoles did a great job with this remix.Free download here.
