For those of you expecting to hear another “Nightcall,” don’t get your hopes up. This new single “ProtoVision” comes nowhere near being as good.
The track is off an upcoming movie called Outrun, for which Kavinsky is providing the soundtrack. In researching this a bit, I actually found myself surprised to learn that he has never really done a full LP. In fact, Wikipedia is calling the 2013 release of this soundtrack his first and only album thus far.
“Nightcall” was Kavinsky’s breakthrough — and clearly this track demonstrates (in my mind) that he is nowhere near the same playing field as Daft Punk. If he was, he’d be repeating the hits.
That said, I’ve heard worse…
