Enigmatic new band Kids of the Apocalypse surfaced in the inboxes of a few indie music writers — and no one is quite sure where they come from. Their SoundCloud is purposely misleading — obviously there are no studios in Greenland — and a tracing of the host name registered to their website brings back a hit from a Catalonia-based music blog.
If the Catalonia part is true, than it would certainly match the feeling of upcoming epicness that you get from their debut single “Masters of the Sun.” The foreboding use of bass certainly fits the mood of the political unrest in Catalonia and Spain in general amongst the youth. Couple that with the band’s logo (a modified anarchy symbol) and the lyrical content
“We were born in the arms of the city/We were schooled by the ways of her guns/So we’ll stay and we’ll fight for the city/We are masters of the sun”
and you might just have a political-electro band at work for the Occupy Your Music Generation. As Details of My Life pointed out in his research earlier, the amount of money put into their website and debut video likely indicate they are with a major label, so who knows how revolutionary they could really be… but I’m willing to go along with this ride.
2013 seems to be the year of escapism and frustration in music, which is interestingly indicative of the state of youth today as well. Check out a free download from the band at their SoundCloud, and we’ll try and fill you in on more information about the band as more singles come out.
