Darwin Deez

Bad Day

Sounds like: Vampire Weekend, Two Door Cinema Club
It was a hipster's paradise as Darwin Deez played to a sold-out crowd in San Francisco Friday night, and I couldn't help myself from joining in. The reason was that his infectious indie pop sound translated perfectly into an on-stage performance. And given what I've heard in the past, that came as a wonderful surprise. You see, I had been warned ahead of my attendance that Darwin missed the same notes he could hit in digital format when on stage. I chatted with him briefly before the show (his unique look is impossible to miss in a crowd) and decided that I really hoped those warnings weren't to be believed. Fortunately, they were completely false. Not only was he able to carry his notes -- he was able to douse the crowd in buckets of fun.I think the stand-out moments of the show were the numerous song interludes, during which the band performed coordinated dances to mix-tapes undoubtedly created by the band. With the exception of a weak hip-hop session (I'm not a fan of Darwin's most-recent hip-hop mix-tape release), I found myself thoroughly impressed by their live performance, and highly recommend catching him as he heads back to the East Coast and then Europe. You can catch a full list of Darwin's stops by visiting this here link.
