What's so good?

Made in Japan first caught our attention earlier in the year (despite forming in 2008) with the release of their brilliant debut LP, Sights and Sounds. The Sydney four-piece has been touring the album, and recently headed back to start work on new material, which they plan to release completely independently. Speaking with drummer and vocalist James Cooney, he mentioned, “Thanks to the support and attention we received after our music was featured on blogs like Indie Shuffle, we realized that we can access our audience directly without anyone needing to be in between.”

In the meantime, they’ve recently released the dreamy “Definitive Pulse.” A slightly more melancholic piece than the previously highlighted “Sights and Sounds,” Cooney’s voice is once again emphasized. His prevailing vocal range is complimented perfectly with drifting guitar layers and echoing harmonies. As the name suggests, the track has a real pulse about it – engaging stuff.

With a sophomore album out “around October,” this is a band which should not be underestimated just because they’ve taken awhile to get going. Their peak is still to come – watch this space.
