Remember Ray of Light Madonna, “Frozen” Madonna, honest Madonna? I miss that music. Lately, it seems as if the one and only has been chasing trends to maintain her pop culture icon status.
This remix by FREnch Fire is momentarily filling the void and keeping her more than relevant. “NVR BR APRT” doesn’t have the powerful string section, but it does close the physical gap a radio-friendly track can sometimes create between itself and a listener.
The updated electronic ambience plays off the heartbreak that shudders in Madonna’s voice, and transforms the song into something physical; I can almost touch it, taste it, and, of course, feel it. The dark sentiment of the original is now gratifyingly palpable.
After running across this track, I was surprised to find that Bristol-based FREnch Fire doesn’t have a noticeable social media following quite yet.
