This is the kind of music that you should definitely listen to while cruising around. As my friend Kevin aptly described while driving down Sepulveda Blvd, it’s atmospheric R&B. Yeah, I think that’s what I’ll stick to. Atmospheric’s just too perfect of a word to characterize this.
A layer of beats surrounds Mariah Carey’s voice, held together by the lovely LotusFlowerBomb sample. Just stellar. Mariah’s heartwrenching voice wails out piercing lyrics while vibes just keep rolling through, like compound molecules forming silently in the sky. Mariah’s my favorite R&B girl, and this remix is as flawless as it gets. A fucking delightful listening experience all around, thanks to one of the most understated talents in the beat scene today: Siik.
Siik is Ken Quemel, a self-described “paragon of pep and personality,” who takes striking photos and produces lush tracks. Check out his interesting coast-to-coast film ~america~ or some of his photos on his website. From SoCal to London, you should be enjoying this guy’s music. Just don’t blame me if you’ve got it stuck on repeat for the next week.
