"Circles"

Sounds like: Wooden Shjips, Crystal Stilts, Thee Oh Sees

What's so good?

Moon Duo is a duo (really?!) comprised of Wooden Shjips’ guitarist Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada. They operate out of San Francisco and have a droney, psychedelic sound much like Wooden Shjips, but a little more aggressive. They just released their new album, Circles, which has some great rock tunes.

There are a few songs that are a little repetitive; ones that hammer a certain guitar riff over and over again with an abrasive buzz. But then there are songs like the title track, “Circles,” that is drawn out, but not in a long-winded kind of way. It has just enough fuzz to keep it interesting, and the vocal melodies are rather pop-oriented. It’s a sound that really hits home on this album, even if it’s sprinkled around instead of chock full.

What do you think?
