What's so good?

Today’s a bit of a cloudy hip-hop day for me, and thanks to the music blog Hilly Dilly, I’ve come across this awesome track by French hip-hop duo Chill Bump.

The song, to be featured on the upcoming EP Hidden Strings, had me hooked with both a thematic intr, and instrumentals that sound a lot like RJD2 and DJ Shadow.

So, naturally I found myself listening to the full EP, a bit of a rarity in my single-driven lifestyle. But, turns out all three songs are pretty good. Perhaps you’ll find the same.

What's so good?

MF Doom’s Special Herbs series is one of hip hop’s longest running instrumental series. However, despite having released numerous volumes, Doom is largely respected for his actual emceeing rather than being held in similar regard to peers such as Madlib or J Dilla.

Personally, I find MF Doom’s productions a little less imaginative than some of his contemporaries, but he shows his ability as a producer with ‘”Vinca Rosea,” which is part of his ninth volume of Special Herbs.

However, there’s more to making a good song than sheer imagination — and that’s where “Vinca Rosea” comes through; although it may not be as imaginative as some other work, it’s got a great memorable tune and a lovely cut up soul sample, which together prove Doom’s more than capable abilities as a producer.

What's so good?

I just can’t stop finding good new music by Madvillain — or at least by MF Doom and/or Madlib, the two underground legends that make up the outfit.

As if “All Caps” wasn’t enough, further exploration of Madvillainy reveals the brief but brilliant “Strange Ways,” a track that highlights the best of both performers, with tight bars from Doom over an unbelievable beat from Madlib.

Although it hasn’t been given the recognition of some of the other tracks on this album, “Strange Ways” is easily as good. Check it out now!

What's so good?

Can’t say I was a fan of Stylo, unless you are talking about Alex Metric’s remix. For me, it just didnt have that catchy punch the Gorillaz are known for. I have been having a couple of doubts concerning their third Gorillaz studio album Plastic Beach, but thanks to listening to this song, all my doubts are gone! Superfast

Jellyfish features Welsh musician Gruff Rhys and Long Island, New York influential hip-hop group De La Soul….. yes.. De La Soul.. same guys from “Feel Good Inc” of their Demon Days record – The Music Ninja
