If you’re in the mood for some smooth modern day disco, then the latest track from Melbourne electro duo Back Back Foward Punch has exactly what you need. The production/vocalist team of Andy Liddell and Laura Boland (respectively) were first introduced to Indie Shuffle listeners earlier this year with their dance-floor friendly single “Zero to Disco,” and now they’re back with another.

“Don’t Stop Now” swings into action quickly and the smooth pace is kept throughout, with Boland’s gentle vocals hovering above a fluid, polished bassline. The synth arrangement and sampling slide effortlessly in giving it more of a laid-back, poppy feel – making for a very easy listen.

UK producer Debian Blak’s post-dubstep experimentation in this latest track “Push It” carries some weight. There’s a bite to his style that sounds like he’s got something to prove to the music world, and with featured vocals from Kate Wolf, the emotional investment is right on point. But while Blak’s keeping it real on his hero journey, Real‘s offering some comic relief with his dance-tastic disco remix.

Real, aka Jack Boean, has appeared the Shuffle in numerous forms (check out “Who?” and “You + Me“), but this is the first we’ve heard from him in remix form. While elements of disco house exist in his other creations, his “Push It” edit is a stab in a slightly different direction — Real’s going whole-heartedly for the boogy oogy, and we can’t help but love it.

Now I know we’ve had our fair share of “Trying To Be Cool” remixes, but I honestly can’t pass up any new material from the legend that is Breakbot. Not many artists can do what Breakbot does, and if anyone were to try, well the bar has been set very high by the Frenchman.

So, what does Breakbot conjure up for his fellow countrymen Phoenix? Well it’s the typical, but unique, blend of electro and funk sounds that make this remix so damn smooth and groovy.  He takes the best elements from the original and accentuates them with sassy guitar lines and vibrant synth work.

I don’t think there is anyone harder on RAC than me. I’ve dedicated whole threads to parsing sub-par RAC mixes (as I’m sure a few Indie Shuffle fans can attest to) — not just because I don’t get reflexive love for any band, but because when he’s on he’s downright revelatory, and it’s important to highlight those moments.

I mean, some of RAC’s early mixes downright changed my entire view on the music scene and helped me see remixes as discovering undiscovered worlds rather than just adding some flair (I’m thinking of you, mixes of Foster The People ‘s “Houdini“ and Peter Bjorn and John’s “Second Chance“).

And I think RAC’s take on the 1978 classic by Sylvester, “You Make Me Feel Mighty Real,” is pretty stellar and a return to form. A lot of people like to think of the original as a happy-go-lucky record, but there was always an inherent loneliness swirling around just below the surface. RAC explores that by interspersing the feeling in layers throughout the song, and with some amazing synth work in the bridge.

I like the idea of cocktail skies. It’s got me thinking of the lyrics from Chims’ ”Bounce“ remix: “Hands to the sky and throw your head back” — like, could you imagine if you did that under cocktail skies?! That motion would be synonymous with happiness!

Forthcoming via Love Not Money, “Cocktail Skies” is a tasty disco tune perfectly concocted for summer, and it sure is nice. The minds behind the music, Ben Real (Lewis) and Sam Nice (Wigg Winfield), aren’t the only ones who can play with words; together, this London duo call themselves Real Nice, specializing in all things real and, uh, nice. Other things that are real nice: a Tupac sample set to a disco tune. Kudos, boys!

While this is the first I’m learning of Real Nice, I think it’s safe to say they have very eclectic tastes. Hopping from bass, house, disco, funk, and soul, it seems these guys will do just about anything to get the dance floor feeling good. So far, I’d say they’re pretty successful.

Goldroom has done a marvelous remix of Owl Eyes’ “Jewels & Sapphires,” and while it’s not necessarily the catchiest song you’ll hear all day, I think the quality stands for itself.

For context, the song be released on a remix EP coming soon from Owl Eyes. Hopefully it’s not five versions of the same track…because this one will steal the cake.

Sydney producer Lancelot is no stranger to Indie Shuffle, with a few of tracks/remixes already sitting pretty in our archives. His 2012 We Can Dance EP (which featured the single “Spoken Word“) was quickly circulated, introducing this young man as one to watch. Even noted producers like the Magician and Goldroom (who even remixed the EP’s title track) were transfixed by this disco-house champion.

He’s just released his first original material of the year, with a two-track available on his SoundCloud for free download. “You’ll Never Be Mine” is a sure-shot; I can’t remember hearing a smoother track in recent memory. Perfectly produced, Lancelot claims it shows off the new, deeper direction his music is taking on.

Lancelot’s follow up EP, Thinking of You, will be released in full next month; hopefully this is enough to tide you over.

Yesterday, the Internet won. We all were utterly flabbergasted when we caught wind of the leaked full stream of Daft Punk’s newest album, Random Access Memories. For me, it will be one of those days that will forever be burned in my memory as to where I was, what I was doing, and the feeling I felt as I listened to Random Access Memories all the way through — a week early.  Despite the early reviews, and all the critics, I was, and still am, in awe.

One track that stuck out for me was “Lose Yourself  To Dance,” featuring Pharrell Williams.  If you watched the Collaborator videos, you probably heard that Daft Punk was intentionally aiming to do something different, something timeless, something that reached back in time to capture the simple essence of live instrumentation, and with “Lose Yourself to Dance” they have encompassed just that — a super funky and warm track that is something amazing.

The only other thing left to say is “press play, and again, and again.”

I’m glad that we can always count on Sweden for the most delectable and elegant indie pop. Club 8 duo Karolina Komstedt and Johan Angergård are, believe it or not, getting set to release their eighth album, Above The City, having released their debut album back in 1996. As old as they might be, there’s no doubt that they’re still sounding as fresh and modern as ever.

“I’m Not Gonna Grow Old” is the second single from the album, and it is a delightful sentiment. It’s yet another catchy indie pop piece infused with disco strings, anthemic choruses, well timed “oh oh ohs,” and just enough dance sensibility. We’re all going to grow old, but here’s hoping that this track makes you feel that much younger today.

Applebottom’s remix of “When You Say” is epically clubby in a late 90s sort of way, and vaguely reminds me of Orgy’s 1995 version of “Blue Monday,” but all this is making me love it.

Forthcoming on Madhouse Records (the big brother of sorts to MadTech), “When You Say” is the original creation of Jay Ennes and Troy Denari. Their original version, a classic house stomper, is just as pleasantly 90s.  Applebottom has thus created a perfect balance between the two; neoclassic sentiment retained, his version is the night to Ennes and Denari’s day.

Whether it’s official or not, Daft Punk’s new single “Get Lucky” appears to be out on the internet. In fact, there are probably a good 100 versions floating around, ranging from a 1 minute SNL clip to 6-minute long “extended mixes.”

To the best of my knowledge, the one streaming here is as close to the real thing as we can get right now. But then again, I’m just a music blogger — my knowledge is pretty limited! [see updates below -- this one's probably not real]

Random Access Memories will officially be available May 21st, and will likely feature a number of amazing guests. But, all of that’s just rumor for now.

It’s difficult to write about situational tracks sometimes; it leads to fear of missing out of an epic bash. If I could have any superpower, it would most likely be to multiply myself so that each of me could simultaneously dance free under a different foreign sky, soaking up the sounds.

Currently in need of a chill breeze, one of me would most definitely head to the upcoming pool parties at The Saguaro Hotel in Palm Springs, if Goldroom’s mix for the festivities is any foreshadowing of a glittering, nu-disco sundowner. Although, as Josh Legg hopefully suggests, the playlist will “soundtrack some sort of epic drive that you take in the near future.”

The Knocks remix of Goldroom’s “Only You Can Show Me” is featured in the mix. One of the sunnier numbers, it kicks off right where my happiness fell off. It adds that little skip to its synth and teases a cool summer ahead.

Song: Ciara - Like a Surgeon (Behling & Simpson Remix) [download here]

Although half of house music over the last four years seems to have been built using a Ciara acapella, it seems that Bristol duo Behling & Simpson have managed to breathe new life into the idea.

Their remix of “Like a Surgeon” started off as just a track to play in their sets, but its popularity has led to it finding its way onto the Interwebs. Now the track is being released as part of BNS001, and should be in shops in the next couple of weeks.

We can’t wait!

Having already released their EP Movements in Australia and New Zealand, Melbourne’s City Calm Down are set to unleash it on the rest of the world. The four-piece has already had an impressive start to the year, having recently supported Alt-J and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

To celebrate their worldwide launch, they’re releasing a number of remixes – including this one of key single “Sense of Self” (check out our post on the original here). Melbourne remix specialist Zac Hayse of ‘96 Bulls (who has previously worked on tracks from Miami Horror and PNAU) has taken the honours on this one, giving the track a smooth disco spin. Even better, Indie Shuffle has been given the track to premiere to you!

Movements will be released on March 25, 2013 via I OH YOU (a Melbourne based label which boasts DZ Deathrays and Snakadaktal on their roster).

I’m a little baffled that this is Glass Candy’s first official mention on Indie Shuffle. After all, the Italians Do It Better labelmates to the Chromatics scored a few quintessential 2011 hits in “Beautiful Object“ and “Warm In The Winter“ (not to mention their previous singles). Plus, Ida No from the band is constantly found in musical cahoots with the Chromatics, most recently in that band’s stellar cover of New Order’s “Ceremony.” Ah, no bother, welcome to the Indie Shuffle referential family, Ida No and Johnny Jewel.

“The Possessed” premiered recently on a Parisian fashion runway and has already got the Alberto Rossini video treatment. Seriously, if Rossini decided to direct my life, I’d jump headfirst into his technicolor wonderland and submit forever as his personally branded masochist. Rossini also directs videos for the Chromatics.

If you like the cool, detached electro-beat side of the Chromatics and witty couplets like…

What’s the most tasteful way to remix Paul Simon? Probably to keep the majority of the track in tact, which appears to be the angle that Flight Facilities have with this 1986 classic.

This rendition appears to have been in their mix for some time now, and the band suggests it works particularly well for a live set — with an easy intro and outro for even the most amateur of DJs. I’m no DJ myself, but this one stands alone by itself pretty well.
