Tune In Crew are a duo producing music from Strasbourg, France, known for remixing a wide variety of artists, ranging from Adele to Matisyahu. Today I bring you their remix of “Where The Kids Are” by rising indie pop artist Blondfire.

This remix keeps the track’s indie pop roots while moving guitar and keyboard sections of the song around. It also keeps Erica Driscoll’s vocals, which create an innocent atmosphere throughout the song.

What's so good?

I’ll forgive you if you confused this song for RAC’s remix of “Blue Jeans” by Lana Del Rey, but that’s exactly the reason I’m posting it.

To date, the countless reincarnations of Daft Punk’s infectious “Get Lucky” have for the most part sounded like the original. But with this version Jack London has — at least for the first minute or so — transformed the track into something unrecognizable.

Here’s hoping you’re not too sick of the original to listen to a great remix.

What's so good?

Gigamesh released his remix of Crystal Fighters’ “You & I” approximately two days ago, and I’ve had it on repeat since then. Sure it’s sort of long at nearly 6 minutes, but the upbeat tempo makes that quite easy to overlook.

The song comes as Crystal Fighters prepare to release their new album Cave Rave on May 27th. It’s looking to be a pretty legit release –to date we’ve featured three songs from their camp, including “You & I,” “Separator” and the infectious “Wave.”

Three RAC remixes in one week? I’m not even going to apologize this time — when I was asked to premiere this remix of Phoenix’s “Trying To Be Cool,” I didn’t even think twice.

You might recognize the original version as the 4th track on Phoenix’s new album Bankrupt!, which was released on April 19th. However, if you’re like me, you might not have even noticed the album was released. In fact, RAC’s version of “Trying To Be Cool” was actually the first time I’d heard the song in any form.

Which leads me to believe that Phoenix’s press people dropped the ball and failed to capitalize on the buzz created by the release of “Entertainment” a few months back. But that’s a whole different story…

Twin Cabins is known for his dream pop/shoegaze music, but he has now thrown his hand into the remix game. Tea Leigh released her song “Color Theory” about eight months ago, and now she’s releasing a few remixes of it, including Twin Cabins’ version.

This remix of “Color Theory” bounces vocals into reverb sound while slowing down the keyboard base of the song.

You’ll have to forgive me, but RAC is once again taking the Song of the Day slot. What’s worse is that this is the second song he’s released in a 48-hour period. Basically, we’re suckers for RAC.

But perhaps there’s something far more simple at the core of his success: the fact that André Anjos has a knack for picking the right songs to tackle. From Edward Sharpe to Two Door Cinema club, his magical touch has transformed already-successful songs into tracks that are just as enjoyable, albeit slightly different.

YACHT’s “Second Summer,” a song released by the band back in December, is no exception to the rule.

What's so good?

Taking to the slew “Entertainment” remixers such as Blood Orange, Dinosaur Jr. and Grizzly Bear, Dirty Projectors have hopped on the bandwagon and thrown down an interesting take on the new Bankrupt! track.

For this remix, Dirty Projectors take the most exciting elements of the original and blend it in with a fast-paced conglomerate of sounds that will either drive you mad or make you smile. I’m not the biggest Dirty Projectors fan (I know, hate me if you must) but this remix doesn’t really bother me as much as most of their songs manage to do. Give it a listen or two and decide if you prefer this mix to the others, or if you just enjoy the simplicity of the original.

What's so good?

Little Daylight have made a mark as one of the hotter new acts of 2013, with their infectious “Name In Lights” leading the way. So when I saw this remix by Pacific Air (one of my our favorite indie rock acts out of LA), you can bet your buttons that it piqued my interest.

The rendition takes the cake as one of the better rejiggering I’ve heard in recent memory. It manages to envelop the original in a totally chill and synthed-out layer — with the cherry on top (a smooth bassline) coming shortly after the 3-minute mark.

Hats off to both parties involved: this is damned good music!

Typically, I try to avoid repeating the same artist twice in the same week for the Song of the Day slot. However, when Mr. Little Jeans and Strange Talk offered us an exclusive premiere of this remix, I found it pretty hard to resist!

Those of you who frequent the site regularly will have seen “Oh Sailor” featured in the top slot on Sunday. The song was Mr. Little Jeans’ first single of 2013, and only the third song we’ve ever heard from her since she burst onto the scene in 2011.

Strange Talk of course are no strangers to the remix game. They’ve tackled acts such as Foster The People and The Temper Trap, and have even found their own songs in the cross-hairs (courtesy of Lightwaves). So, given that background, it comes as little surprise that this light-hearted electro pop remix of “Oh Sailor” hits just the right spot.

Phoenix are set to release Bankrupt on April 23, 2013, and in the meantime, you can stream the highly anticipated album on iTunes. Last night, Phoenix dropped another remix of “Entertainment” on their SoundCloud. This version is by Hot Natured, who did nothing short of work their magic.

Hot Natured’s remix is slowed down and bass-driven, which keeps your attention for the track’s seven full runtime. Props to Hot Natured for doing an excellent job of remixing “Entertainment” without losing the song’s core.

What's so good?

I am not usually a fan of RAC remixes (and the ideology behind them), but their take on Bastille‘s “Laura Palmer” is resonating with me. Granted, RAC has turned the acoustic original into what kind of sounds like an overproduced Phoenix song… but I’ve been listening to it all day, and I can’t stop. Plus, lead singer Dan Smith’s deep, dreamy vocals layered over aren’t half bad.

What is successful about this rework is that it renders the song into something more profound than it was — and its catchiness doesn’t impede that. Or, if you take argument with that statement, this version feels more grounded at a minimum.

Do you love this or hate it? Let’s fight about it.

What's so good?

Remixes of Passion Pit are perhaps more numerous than any other. They come in a wide array of styles: some end up dance hall hits, while others take a more subtle approach. I’d have to place this remix in the latter category.

Silent Rider have layered their touch on Passion Pit’s “Carried Away,” which was released on their 2012 album Gossamer. And while that makes it little late to the game, there’s relevance in that Passion Pit is currently performing at Coachella (Day 1).

So, for those of you not currently in the Indio/Palm Springs, CA region — here’s a little reminder of what we’re missing.

Imagine Dragons have become a huge sensation over the last year or so as they’ve created a wide spectrum of music. Their song “Radioactive” originally had a bit of electronics mixed into it, which was a bit different from other songs on the album.

So naturally, it would fit into an electronic remix, and the Canadian duo The Dirty Tee have accepted the daring challenge of taking an already legit song and making it into something worthwhile.

The Dirty Tees remix of “Radioactive” kicks the original version up a notch by adding an electro vibe. The one thing I appreciate is that they don’t overdo it — during parts of the song, they give the beat a break and let the original awesomeness shine. Job well done balancing the elements and adding new flavor!

What's so good?

Beacon, the latest LP from Two Door Cinema Club, has a serious case of missing “je ne sais quoi” – which only became more apparent upon repeated listenings. Structurally, the songs were sound, and lyrically they lingered like romance on the brain; but they were missing that spark that set the loins of hipsters on fire everywhere in 2009-2011.

That was especially true on “Spring,” which loitered around greatness, but only achieved it through Anatomy’s remix. Like the Ryan Riot remix of “Handshake” I covered, Anatomy infuses the chorus with the absent energy needed to move the track from telling its message to making us feel it.

In a lot of ways, this remix has that same magic that drove the innocent hopefulness of TDCC’s “Something Good Can Work.” Anatomy uses their looping to make the track feel like drunkenly swooning for someone you pine for. The vocal splicing simulates the choppy nature of lovesick thoughts you’ll never share — a sentiment I feel “Spring” was always trying to express.

Django Django released their eponymous 13-track debut album last year with great fanfare, and while some of us are still obsessing over it, most of us are looking for a killer remix to add to our archives.

Featured on Django’s Hi Djinx! Django Django Remixed album, this version of “Life’s A Beach” by Steve Mason is a track that appeals to their genre-bending capabilities, incorporating a plethora of influences from psych to rock to electronica. The insatiable grooves enlisted by Steve Mason are drenched on top of Django’s already rocked-out vibe that blends and builds on top of the original.

What's so good?

Cold War Kids’”Miracle Mile“ is one of my favorite tracks this year. A jangly, chamber pop experience replete with inspirational lyrics that soar you to the moon and back? Oh, yes please, and don’t stop filling my plate with that tasty, soul satiation.

Unfortunately, it was really difficult to fit that kind of exuberance in a playlist, save outside some kind of punctuating last bit of flair. Which, to me, always felt unfair to the song’s meaty message. Enter Houses to tackle the task of smoothing down the track with an R&B vibe that never dilutes its message.

Houses slows down the tempo and belies it with some tasteful snare and handclaps to keep up the song’s momentum. But their greatest touch is the addition of some synthy goodness which makes every re-entry from the chorus into the verses feel like coming up for air into a new life.

It’s just another example of Houses’ great track record in the last year. Check out more on their SoundCloud.

Hype Machine has this relatively new navigation menu for their historical popular lists. It’s pretty sweet, and lets you easily fly through the charts all the way back to 2007. Which is how I found this Four Tet remix of Andrew Bird…

First covered in December of 2007, I find the song interesting for the fact that it sounds quite different to the modern-day Four Tet. It just goes to show how much technology has allowed artists to evolve over the last five years.

In case you didn’t notice, earlier today we announced that Ghost Beach would be featured during our SXSW 2013 showcase with All Things Go. So naturally we’re pretty stoked to feature anything coming out of their camp, especially when it sounds as good as this Chad Valley remix.

The remix will be part of a monster Modern Tongues Remix EP, featuring the likes of Penguin Prison, Gigamesh and Shook. You’ll be able to grab that some time in April, as well as catch these two artists together on a live tour.

Just when you thought the remixes of Pacific Air’s “Float” were done, along comes a new one by a totally awesome band. Ra Ra Riot have been known to jump into the remix game, though we haven’t seen an appearance for quite some time now (probably too busy with their own material).

Good news for us is that this remix of “Float” is hardly the same-old-thing. We’ve heard some many various renditions of this track that it’s hard to imagine something completely unique coming along, but I think Ra Ra Riot executed this one successfully.

Pacific Air and Ra Ra Riot are currently on tour together, and you can find this remix as the B-side to a “Float” 7″ via Barsuk.

Two Door Cinema Club – Next Year (RAC Mix)

After a couple false starts, RAC has officially unveiled his remix of Two Door Cinema Club’s “Next Year,” the second single off their album Beacon.

André Allen Anjos is obviously quite familiar with the band: his rendition of “Something Good Can Work” actually ended up being his most-popular remix to date, garnering well over 500k listens on Soundcloud. It also topped our 2011 list of best remixes, likely attributing for the bulk of those plays ;-)

Jokes aside, the latest string of “official” remixes from the Two Door Cinema Club camp have generally been thoroughly disappointing — not unlike their album. Which sucks, given that they’re one of my favorite bands. Fortunately, RAC has breathed fresh air into their material: without a doubt, this is one of my favorite remixes of 2013.

What's so good?

“Breathing Underwater” is part of a new era of Metric songs (post-Fantasies) that’s about escaping off the island of you, and bursting through the artificial boundaries that define yourself from the rest of the world. I remember when I saw Emily Haines perform in this intimate little garage for 40 people or so in Seattle during the Live it Out tour, and the exhaustion of carrying the sentiment of songs like “Empty” was palpable within her.

There is a point where being mired in the ocean of your own pain, you might just grow gills and swim in that ocean like its reality. That idea for Metric carries back to 2009 and can be found in the music video documentary for the single “Help, I’m Alive” (I’ve watched that some 400+ times to this day–its beautiful). In it, Emily discusses escaping to Buenos Aires to find a life uncomplicated and the freedom that journey transpired.

It took me awhile to get to the same place as Emily, and therefore I didn’t quite connect with the Fantasies and Synthetica catalogue until now. But at the right moment in my life, comes this spectacular remix by MNDR that’ll take any Metric fan and surface them out of their own ocean through chillstep currents, blasting them right into Emily’s stratosphere.

What's so good?

Song of the Day options are quite sparse today, but this remix of Wild Belle’s “It’s Too Late” by French duo Employee Of The Year caught my attention.

The original version was released by Wild Belle sometime toward the end of last year, and features a sort of ska / upbeat / jam-band feel. So with that in mind, I think Employee Of The Year have actually done a fantastic job transforming the vibe into something a bit more “futuristic.”

Listening to the two side-by-side certainly increases my appreciation of this rendition.

What's so good?

I’m clearly a sucker for André Allen Anjos’ remixing ability. He has to be by far our most featured Song of the Day artist. And on that note, Ra Ra Riot are certainly up there as well. In fact, this probably isn’t the first time we’ve featured a collaboration between the two.

“Beta Love” comes as the title track off the New York-based band’s third album Beta Love, released earlier this year to a pretty good reception. I can’t say I’ve been listening to it on repeat, but this rendition almost makes me want to do that.
