There is no instrument that can displace a poignant vocal. As the harmonies on “Even If We Try” chime in, their vulnerability is divine. The violins stir the soul further, yet before it can take a disheartening turn, a hopeful melody betters the weather. It’s all enough to wonder where Night Beds came from.
Winston Yellen is the answer. The Colorado Springs native has now made Nashville his home. According to NPR however, ”the songs on the debut album … Country Sleep, were written and partially recorded in Tennessee at the former Sycamore Homestead in Tennessee of Johnny Cash.”
We can expect the full album in February via Dead Oceans. In the meanwhile, visit the label’s SoundCloud to hear “You Were Afraid,” the B-side off Night Bed‘s single. It also holds its own quite beautifully.
