According to their SoundCloud, UK’s Nubiyan Twist is a “10 piece reggae, hip-hop and Afro-beat band… with a powerful horn section, soulful female vocals/MC’ing, live dubs/electronics, turntablism and an explosive rhythm section stretching from Brazil to the UK.”
It’s a long description to decipher, but it all becomes quite clear when you listen to “Figure Numatic.” Jazzy vocals and horn wrap around musical funk before the MC breaks through. Almost three minutes in, one song spills into another as Nubiya Brandon professes, “My brain is an ammo clip,” foreshadowing the long-lasting experimental groove to follow.
