Finding Onuinu in my inbox was a pleasant surprise. Although he makes music in Portland and I am here in Silicon Valley, his electro pop tune “Happy Home” feels like an old friend. I read that he is pushing his sound as “disco-hop” which is cool with me, except I have no idea what that means. Disco + hip-hop, I suppose, but there is a lot more going on here than just that.
Onuinu’s (real name Dorian Duvall) first full length album, Mirror Gazer, is set for release on August 21 via Bladen County. It is sure to feature more 70s shimmer, roller-rink ready good times. With influences like Brian Eno, Michael Jackson and Yellow Magic Orchestra, it will be interesting to see what other catchy-ass tricks Onuinu has up his talented sleeve.
