Rainbow Chan

Skinny Dipping

Sounds like: Bjork, CocoRosie, Joanna Newsom
I've always really admired the music Rainbow Chan makes, but I haven't entirely understood it. Until now that is.As co-winner of the 2011 FBi Northern Lights Competition (alongside Oliver Tank), she visited the home of her musical idol Bjork (Rainbow Chan's music bears a definite resemblance to her) to develop her sound. After gaining a cult following locally with the release of a number of singles, she seems to have taken another step-forward with her new track "Skinny Dipping."The new single is absolutely gorgeous, and a little easier to take in than her previous works. While it's definitely more accessible, Chan hasn't shifted too far from her interesting style. Light and dreamy, "Skinny Dipping" is carried by Chan's charming vocals and her unmistakable take on electronic music. Classically trained in piano, saxophone and vocals, she creates loops with a variety of quirky instruments. This is the first track off her upcoming EP release (mid-year). You can check out her previous singles on her SoundCloud.
