Plucked out of obscurity and thrust into the infinite world of remixes, we have UK producer Gavin Burrell, aka Reborn Identity, with a standout track titled “Spirit World.” Originally from the Britpop Rebooted album, “Spirit World” is made up of Radiohead’s “Street Spirit (Fade Out),” Morcheeba’s “Gained the World” featuring Manda, Digitalism’s “Taken Away” and Eliza Lumley’s cover of “Street Spirit.”

An epically beautiful and haunting number from the start, the combined artists flawlessly create a sound that is authentic and extremely sensitive. It delicately pulls at your emotions and stretches the fabric of popular music, opening up a more melancholy genre to new and exciting contextual arenas. The audible finery in the song lies in its uncontrived and distinguishable samples of each artist. Thom Yorke’s charismatic crooning looped behind Morcheeba’s downtempo grooves and Manda’s sultry vocals, embedded softly in Digitalisms beats? In my opinion this is pairing worth swooning over.
