What's so good?
By Jason Grishkoff | Jan 04, 2013

Is Skrillex leaving dubstep behind? Because this is the title track off his new EP Leaving, and it has absolutely no hints at dubstep.

In fact, the only piece that seems somewhat reminiscent is a bit of auto-tuned high-pitch vocals (which you might catch at 4.06). Otherwise, this is a whole new artist.

Is that a good thing? Yes and no.

Skrillex made a name for himself via his hard-hitting dubstep. It became so popular that he ended up a bit of a joke (the butt of multiple memes). So naturally, it's good to "evolve" from there.

But by Jove, what a boring direction to turn! If I wanted to listen to music like this, I'd turn to folks at the forefront, like Disclosure.  Has his break-up with Ellie Goulding gotten to him? I sure hope not -- I'd love to hear more in the vein of their recent collaboration.

Ultimately, I'm not the one making the music here. So if Skrillex wants to head this direction, why the hell not? That said, if it's just a temporary experiment, I won't complain as much.
