What's so good?

By | February 23rd, 2012

I don’t know what winter is like where you live, but most of us in the continental United States are still staring at one more month of winter weather.  With this in mind, I dreamed of warmer places with beaches, flip-flops, and surfboards.  Yes, that’s right, the O.C.

Way back in 2003, Fox introduced us to it’s own brand of teenage beach drama when it premiered The O.C.  Despite it’s obvious similarities to Beverly Hills 90210, The O.C. was always a little bit different.  One major difference was how it pioneered the use of indie music in a prime-time television series.

Executive Producer and creator Josh Schwartz was quoted on the shows Wikipedia page saying that he, “always intended that music be a character on the show.”  This led to an infusion of some great music and bands that were given the spotlight during The O.C.’s four year run.

This included bands like Death Cab For Cutie becoming household names and breaking out into the mainstream.  As well as showcasing Ryan Adam’s cover of Wonderwall.  Arguably one of the best covers ever recorded.

So, if winter is getting you down, warm up to these songs straight from The O.C.
