What's so good?

Oh hey, Black Angels. How are you doing with your smokey, sexy, psych-rock selves? Good, from the sounds of it.

“Evil Things,” the new single off their upcoming album Indigo Meadow (out April 2, 2013), is a big, balls-out rocker of a tune, dealing with the good versus evil nature of human nature (evil seems to come out on top, as evidenced by the wailing, “We’re all evil!” refrain). Clouded in the hazy fuzz of the band’s past efforts, “Evil Things” takes a step out of their 60s-influenced stoner sound, and into the big, bad world of aggressive guitar chords (get yer fists ready for pumping) — the layered drone that’s so distinctive of their sound is there, but turned up to 11 and thrown in your face.

This is psych rock removed from the acid trip turntable realm, and straight into the stadium. There’s a little Sabbath in here, and it suits the Angels’ style — this is pure dark side, and I’m just about ready to cross over.
