In 2007, Vice Records released an exclusive MP3 of Diplo’s remix, a one-off for Black Lips’ “Veni Vidi Vici.” The Atlanta-based Black Lips built their reputation on extreme live performances and shocking their audiences with lewd behavior and debauchery while Mississippi mix master, Diplo, attracts audiences with heavy bass and club-ready beats. The symbiosis of these two southern artists is one that is so inexplicably right that I’m surprised there hasn’t been another sample since.
Now, even though this song isn’t new, it’s one of those tracks that you can listen to several times and that badass factor never wavers, probably because it’s so well-equipped with enticing beats and laidback vocals. I recommend it even if you don’t consider yourself a Black Lips fan. The original song is from the Black Lips album, Good Bad Not Evil which is available on CD, vinyl and digital.
